flops and fun

At my age and level of skill, everything I do should be perfect.  I shouldn't make mistakes or ugly designs.
But NOOOOOO, I still do....
big flop
This was an experimental belt buckle.  I used too much solder, made it too heavy, and mis-placed the buckle on the back. It has some interesting qualities, but is overall a BIG Flop.  I hate making flops, but I do need to remember; play and experimentation are key to creative growth.

For more in-progress views, here are some brass roses in progress.  I may play and experiment with these as well.  I'm thinking of crochet, fiber, embroidery, something colorful and wearable.

I hope my rose fiberart play doesn't turn out ugly.

Hi Kirsten!

I would love to see one of your Oak Leaves as a belt buckle. Did you consider crocheting your piece out of really fine wire? I've had success with 24-30 gauge and a small (super small) crochet hook.

Happy Hammering!

Thanks Kerry. I've done some crochet work with fine silver and fine bronze wire. I do like it, but lately I've been inspired by the work in the Bohemian Embellishment group on flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/1243748@N25/
I'd like to patinate some roses to blue, and then use them with colorful natural fibers.

Hi Kirsten--
So glad you're enjoying the Bohemian Embellishment group on flickr--I am having such a fun time too browsing through the photos :) And this post made me laugh, because I always have a tray of flops on my desk which are waiting to be cut apart for some other project...I love the idea of combining the metal flowers with some fiber--I hope you'll post the finished result on one of the flickr groups :)

Ivy
