Gold Heart Fibula Brooches

A fibula is term broadly used to describe pins used by the ancient Greeks and Romans to fasten clothing.  In the contemporary jewelry world, we use the term to describe pins or brooches where the pinning mechanism is a spring that is visible, decorative, and functional.  A fibula pin mechanism functions much like a safety pin.

The spring safety pin type of closure is perfect for my viney work.  I love the idea that every element of a piece of jewelry is functional and beautiful.  In a fibula, the pin mechanism doesn't need to be hidden.

These are 18k yellow gold heart fibula brooches, created with chasing and repoussé for the hearts and small scale forging for the vines.  These are completely handcrafted, one-of-a-kind works.
Both pins are in the 1-1/2 to 2 inch size range.  If you click on the pictures, you will get to the listing pages, with detailed measurements and more photo views.
